Repository Sync Implementation Summary

Overview

Successfully implemented automatic repository synchronization between A6-9V/MQL5-Google-Onedrive and L6-N9 with REST API key management and CI/CD integration.

What Was Implemented

1. GitHub Actions Workflow (.github/workflows/repo-sync.yml)

Features:

  • Automatic sync on push to main branch
  • Scheduled sync every 6 hours
  • Manual trigger via GitHub Actions UI
  • Support for push, pull, and bidirectional sync
  • REST API notification system
  • Comprehensive error handling
  • Detailed logging and summary reports

Triggers:

  • push to main/master branches
  • schedule - Every 6 hours via cron
  • workflow_dispatch - Manual trigger with direction selection

2. Sync Manager Script (scripts/repo_sync_manager.py)

Features:

  • Configuration validation
  • Git repository management
  • REST API integration with bearer token authentication
  • Automatic directory synchronization
  • Comprehensive error handling
  • CLI interface with arguments

Commands:

# Check configuration
python3 scripts/repo_sync_manager.py --check-config

# Run sync (push direction)
python3 scripts/repo_sync_manager.py --direction push

# Pull from L6-N9
python3 scripts/repo_sync_manager.py --direction pull

# Bidirectional sync
python3 scripts/repo_sync_manager.py --direction bidirectional

3. Integration Tests (scripts/test_repo_sync.py)

Test Coverage:

  • Configuration validation
  • Environment variable handling
  • Git information retrieval
  • REST API communication
  • Error handling
  • CLI argument parsing

Results: 12/12 tests passing

4. Documentation

Created Files:

  • REPO_SYNC_SETUP.md - Complete setup guide (7.8KB)
  • QUICK_SYNC_SETUP.md - Quick start guide (3.4KB)
  • Updated GITHUB_SECRETS_SETUP.md - Secrets documentation
  • Updated README.md - Main documentation

Coverage:

  • Prerequisites and requirements
  • Step-by-step setup instructions
  • GitHub token generation
  • Secret configuration
  • Troubleshooting guide
  • Security best practices

5. Configuration Updates

.env.example: Added new environment variables:

# Repository Sync Configuration
REPO_SYNC_TOKEN=
L6_N9_REPO=A6-9V/L6-N9
L6_N9_SYNC_BRANCH=main

# REST API Configuration
REST_API_KEY=
REST_API_URL=
REST_API_SYNC_ENABLED=true

Security Analysis

CodeQL Scan Results

  • Python: No alerts found
  • GitHub Actions: No alerts found

Security Features Implemented

  • Secure token storage via GitHub Secrets
  • Bearer token authentication for REST API
  • No hardcoded credentials
  • Masked secrets in logs
  • HTTPS for all API communications
  • Timeout protection on HTTP requests
  • Error handling prevents information leakage

What Gets Synced

Directories:

  • mt5/MQL5/ - MT5 indicators and expert advisors
  • scripts/ - Automation scripts
  • config/ - Configuration files
  • docs/ - Documentation

Files:

  • README.md
  • requirements.txt
  • .env.example

Configuration Requirements

Required (for sync to work):

  • REPO_SYNC_TOKEN - GitHub Personal Access Token with repo scope

Optional (for REST API notifications):

  • REST_API_KEY - API authentication key
  • REST_API_URL - API endpoint URL

Optional (for customization):

  • L6_N9_REPO - Target repository (default: A6-9V/L6-N9)
  • L6_N9_SYNC_BRANCH - Target branch (default: main)

Usage Scenarios

Automatic Sync

  1. Developer pushes code to main branch
  2. Workflow automatically triggers
  3. Changes sync to L6-N9
  4. REST API receives notification (if configured)

Scheduled Sync

  1. Cron triggers workflow every 6 hours
  2. Latest changes sync to L6-N9
  3. Keeps repositories in sync automatically

Manual Sync

  1. User navigates to Actions tab
  2. Selects "Repository Sync with L6-N9"
  3. Chooses sync direction (push/pull/bidirectional)
  4. Triggers workflow manually

Testing & Validation

Automated Tests

  • 12 unit tests (all passing)
  • Configuration validation
  • REST API integration
  • Error handling

Security Scans

  • CodeQL analysis (0 vulnerabilities)
  • Dependency validation
  • Secrets management review

Manual Validation

  • Workflow YAML syntax
  • Python syntax and imports
  • Documentation accuracy
  • File permissions

Future Enhancements (Optional)

Potential Improvements:

  1. Conflict Resolution: Automatic merge conflict handling
  2. File Filtering: Selective file sync with patterns
  3. Rollback Support: Automatic rollback on sync failure
  4. Webhook Support: Alternative to REST API polling
  5. Sync History: Track sync operations in database
  6. Notification Channels: Slack, Discord, Email notifications
  7. Sync Analytics: Dashboard showing sync statistics

Troubleshooting Guide

Common Issues:

1. "REPO_SYNC_TOKEN not configured"

  • Solution: Add token to GitHub Secrets

2. "Repository not found"

  • Solution: Verify token has access to L6-N9

3. "403 Forbidden"

  • Solution: Ensure token has repo scope

4. REST API notification fails

  • Note: Non-critical, sync continues

Maintenance

Regular Tasks:

  • Rotate REPO_SYNC_TOKEN every 60-90 days
  • Review sync logs monthly
  • Update documentation as needed
  • Monitor REST API endpoint availability

Token Rotation Steps:

  1. Generate new GitHub PAT
  2. Update REPO_SYNC_TOKEN secret
  3. Test sync operation
  4. Revoke old token

Success Metrics
